Everyone is welcome
Join local artist Xuemei Lu (Meii Studio) for a hands-on clay workshop where you can help hand-build poppies that will become part of a community art installation at the Main Library this fall.
This workshop is part of a project by local artist Christopher He, commissioned by the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery for "Remembrance Every Day," a nationwide exhibition commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII.
This is a drop-in program and everyone is welcome. The program will be taking place during the Uptown BIA Night Market on the library patio (attached to the Auditorium).
Christopher He is a mixed-media artist living in Waterloo. He studied fine art at the University of Waterloo. Inspired by personal experience, self-identity, and cultural traditions, He's work explores cultural diversity through playful yet deeply meaningful forms. Having first learned hand-building at a very young age, He balances nostalgia and storytelling in his ceramics, transforming everyday objects into reflections of heritage and identity.

Xuemei Lu (BFA) has been exploring ceramics since 2020. To obtain a better understanding of ceramic art, she enrolled in the Fine Arts major at the University of Waterloo in 2022. She experiments with different techniques and materials, bringing new perspectives and inspiration to her work. Her pieces focus on emotions, tactile sensory stimulation, and nature. The most significant feature of her work is the manipulation of textures which tell stories. She experiments with different materials and tools to explore the potentials of ceramics and she often incorporates performance to challenge typical presentations of ceramic sculptures. Her passion for ceramics motivates her along her artistic journey and will keep leading her to the next destination.
