Bring your kids to meet two of their favourite Canadian authors, Erin Bow and Jessica Vitalis.
Erin and Jessica will be talking about their newly released middle grade books, Simon Sort of Says by Erin Bow and Coyote Queen by Jessica Vitalis and answering audience questions.
Erin Bow was born and raised in Iowa, and trained as a physicist so naturally she now spends her days writing children’s fiction in her tiny (heated) garden shed in Ontario. Her books - which include the Governor General’s Award - winning Stand on the Sky, Plain Kate, Sorrow’s Know, and the science fiction duology The Scorpion Rules and The Swan Riders – have won a fistful of awards. Erin lives with her husband (who’s also a novelist), two teenage kids, a tabby named after a rock, a black cat named after a black hole, and an empty-headed, big hearted dog named after the moon.
Jessica Vitalis, a Columbia MBA-wielding writer, authored The Wolf’s Curse and a standalone companion novel, The Rabbit’s Gift (which received starred reviews from the School Library Journal and CCBC and was named a Canadian Children’s Book Center Best Books for Kids and Teens 2023). Her next book, Coyote Queen, arrives on 10/10/23 and an unnamed novel in verse comes out in 2024. Her work has been translated into three languages, and she was named a 2021 Canada Council of the Arts Grant Recipient and featured on CBCs Here and Now and CTVs Your Morning. Jessica now lives in Ontario with her husband and two daughters but speaks at conferences, festivals, and schools all over North America.
